On the Saturday, we went to Universal Studios with David and Shannon. We let them choose which of the two parks we'd focus on as they were leaving the next day and only had a pass to one of the parks. We went to Islands of Adventure.
We had bought a two day pass to allow us to go into both parks. It's more than a bit of a con, as the Harry Potter stuff is split between the two parks. That's not the end of the fleecing, though, as every bit of Harry Potter merchandise is twice as expensive as your highest estimate as to what it could possibly cost. We paid $7.50 for a butterbeer. It was good, but for that price it should have cured ME or at least made us all invisible or something. We also had a disagreement with Emma about whether or not she could spend $25 on an Advanced Potion Making notebook. In the end, we remembered that they had been given money to spend from my family, so they should be free to spend it how they want (within reason).
We got there at opening, which enabled us pretty much to walk onto all the rides in Islands of Adventure that we wanted to do together. We went on Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey twice. I think I would have vomitted if we had gone on a third time. We went on some wet rides and dried off pretty quickly. David had to queue for a bit to get onto the big Hulk rollercoaster, but everything else was pretty quick to get on. We had been considering buying fast passes (for an extra $70 per head), but thankfully didn't need to in the end. Sarah's ponchos came in handy for the wet rides.
It was a nice, relaxing day. The Disney days were great in that we were with everyone, but it often took a while to meet up and a lot of time was spent waiting on people. Being at Universal in a smaller group meant we could do everything quicker, which worked well for me. I was really impressed with Michael and Emma's willingness to go on stuff. They didn't really get scared by any of the rides, but avoided ones that had big dips in them. They were also placated by us saying we would come back to the shops later in the day, so we could focus on doing as many rides as possible in the first couple of hours.
David and Shannon left mid-afternoon, and we hung around for another couple of hours. We rode the Hogwarts Express over to the other park and did a bit of looking around there.
The weather forecast for the Saturday had been for rainstorms later in the day, which probably worked in our favour as there were not nearly as many people there as we had expected.
