waters

sarah's water must have broken sometime early this morning. no need for too many details, it's enought to say that she was aware! we called the midwife at the hospital as advised, and were asked to come in for a couple of checks, but as we knew, the baby could come at any point over the next couple of days, so we came home.

the advice for women at this stage of labour seems oxymoronical to me. they are advised to keep themselves busy, prepare meals, go for walks, get stuff ready in the house. at the same time they are advised to relax - have baths, rest (on the left side), sit on fitness balls (which sarah is currently squashing) and sleep.

because the baby no longer has the amniotic fluid to keep it in a sterile environment, we need to be a bit careful with sarah now. i found out today that the baby actually drinks the amniotic fluid when it's in the womb. given that it's kidney's work, it then processes the fluid and pees it out into the fluid, then drinks the fluid. can you see where i'm going with this? but before you judge, remember that we all were in the same position once.

Congratulations Martin and Sarah on the arrival of your baby boy. That's wonderful news that Mum and baby are both fine and healthy.

We hope that things go well and that you will be home soon. Take care and let us know if there is anything we can do.
