We went on a minor road trip on the Sunday in San Francisco to see the Golden Gate Bridge and the Muir Woods, which is where a large number of Sequoia trees are. We met up and had a picnic in a park before heading out there.
It was difficult to capture in photos just how tall the trees are. It was amazing to see them, and wonderful to walk around them. Apparently the Endor scenes of Return of the Jedi were shot in a Redwood Forest, so the place had an air of familiarity about it for that reason.
Emma was very diligent and filled out her booklet that she got at the start with lots of research notes and pictures. At the end, she was sworn in as a Junior Park Ranger and given a badge by a real Park Ranger. She definitely earned that!
The Golden Gate Bridge was also very impressive. David knew a good spot to go to for a good view, which I recognised from playing Watch Dogs 2 on the Xbox (as I did several other parts of San Francisco). It was very windy up there and quite cold as a result, but we were glad we had a clear day to see everything. We were also glad that the bridge was not being attacked by aliens, giant mutated sea creatures or terrorists as we have so often seen it depicted in films. I don't think Emma fully appreciated the humour intended when we were talking about that. I think she thought that was a real risk. I may have watched Monsters vs Aliens with her later to help explain. Watching that with Sophia was interesting as she had about a million questions about what was happening in the film and what was going to happen next.
We had such a nice day that we didn't even resent getting billed an excessive processing fee by the car rental people for them paying the toll on the bridge.
