Olivia, Colette and Neve help out with a fantastic array of cakes
Emma had a lovely first birthday.
Colette and the girls came over in the morning to help out with making some cakes. Emma really enjoyed playing with Olivia and Neve.
In the evening we had a few of the dolly mixture cakes. Emma kept trying to put out the candles with her hands, but luckily her big brother was on hand to put them out using the more traditional and safer blowing method.
My family came over on the Saturday, and just like Michael when he was one, Emma needed a lot of help and a little encouragement to open the presents. She didn't really get what was going on. Again, Michael was on hand to make sure that all relevant presents were open. Emma's second birthday cake went down well. When I saw my dad sitting in the corner, not talking to anyone and eating the cheesecake, that's was as much a sign to me as anything else that the cheesecake was really good and much appreciated.
Just a wee anecdote about Michael - he's not been feeling well the past couple of days. Today at lunch he wasn't really hungry. Sarah had told him just to drink his juice, but after a few minutes I encouraged him to have some macaroni. He said that mum had told him just to drink the juice, and mum stepped in to humorously say that Mummy and Daddy were one (as we were obviously not at that point). He quickly said "You're not one - you're big. I'm four". Sarah was finding it difficult not to laugh at that point
