We just got back from a week staying at Big Husky Lodge up in Boat of Garten beside Aviemore. We had a lovely time, and had some great weather. We hadn't really packed stuff for hot weather as the outlook had looked wet, but it was surprisingly hot.
There were some celebrations for the 250th anniversary of Grantown-on-Spey. Emma came back with an assortment of Fire Brigade badges and balloons. Michael and Emma really enjoyed spending time with their cousin Sophie.
Monday 29th June was Maggie's 40th birthday. Everyone went to Loch Morlich for the afternoon, then came back for some games (thanks to Auntie Alyson) and some cake (thanks to Sarah and Dorothy). As part of the games, we had to stick stickers onto people without getting caught. Unfortunately Michael was sitting next to me and I was determined to win, so he ended up with almost all of my stickers. Emma especially enjoyed one of the games which was a variation on pass the parcel, but instead involving a big ball made of cling film with sweeties inside it, and you had to unravel it until the next person rolled a double with dice. It was like a sweetie shower.
As you can see from the photos, Emma and Michael really enjoyed playing with the bubbles both from Maggie's bubble machine and the juggle bubble set Grandma brought.
We went and played putting just up the road one day at a lovely course. Michael, Emma, Dorothy and Sarah were the advance group and took about a third of the time that David, Courtney (David's girlfriend), Maggie, Neil and myself took. Sophia less played and more roamed around the course.
We brought some water pistols and had a big water fight on one of the hot days, which was very refreshing. Emma got absolutely soaked but gave as good as she got. Michael seemed more into hiding behind the hot tub and jumping out at people. Neil and Sophia got involved. Alan also joined in.
We went to the Landmark Centre on the hottest day. I was able to do a lot more than I was last year, although was shattered when I got back. Thankfully that was really the only time that week I got too tired. Michael was great and had a try at everything he could. He even climbed up the Skydive, but was a little too scared to jump off the top - no wonder, as it's a straight drop down about 10-15m! He was great at climbing on the climbing wall, and Uncle David joined in to try and help him reach the top. He even went on the Roller Coaster with Grandma. I got to go down the waterslides with Emma twice (Michael wanted to go on his own).
We also went to Coylumbridge hotel to play on the soft play and the crazy golf. Emma managed to get a hole in one at one of the holes!
Michael got to watch the first half of Aberdeen's Europa League qualifying match against a Macedonian team with his Uncles Alan, David and Neil. Unfortunately he missed both the goals (in the second half when he was in bed).
The kids were really well behaved. Michael did keep asking if he could play on the Xbox or Wii U, but took it well when he couldn't. Emma asked if we were there yet when we reached Bridge of Allan on the way up (5 minutes out of Tullibody), and kept asking all the way to Perth until she got engrossed in whatever film was on in the car. Uncle Alan did report that he bumped into Emma upstairs at 1 am wondering around asking where her mum was. She kind of half wakes up sometimes saying she's had a bad dream. Here's hoping it doesn't turn into full blown night terrors as she gets older!
