Sarah had applied for load of tickets, and thankfully got tickets for Hockey and Rugby Sevens, and in a later issue of tickets the netball.
It was really warm on all 3 occasions, especially when they went through for the hockey, and the kids dealt really well with the heat.
They went through on the train all 3 times and Sarah was well prepared. They had flags to colour in for all of the countries, and had favourite teams in most of the matches.
The hockey was good. They got to see the women's games of South Africa against Trinidad & Tobago (16-0) and India against Canada (4-2). There weren't too many in the crowd (although it was full), so I was trying to spot them on the TV at home, but couldn't.
They had a chance to try out the hockey beforehand which was a great idea. Sarah also took them on a quick tour of the local sights, so they got to see some of the landmarks as well as the mandatory traffic cone on the statue's head.
The rugby sevens was at ibrox, and was really busy. It was a fantastic atmosphere, and the games were really quick so were very exciting. At one point the whole stadium were cheering for an underdog against Australia (who were whipping them), and Michael got a little upset because he was supporting Australia. When he got home he asked me "Daddy, why must we always cheer for the underdog?" I guess there's some aspects of being Scottish that are only learned over time.
For the netball, Sarah only took Michael as it was later at night and she was also reasonably serious about it. They had a great time.
It's been many months, and I still haven't got over the fact that the Proclaimers weren't part of the closing ceremony.
