We celebrated Michael's birthday with his family on Martin's side on Saturday.
We openly admitted that the party was for our benefit (as were the cakes!) -
Michael seemed to enjoy getting everybody's attention, which was just as well because he still didn't quite get the hang of unwrapping presents and opening cards (thanks to everybody who sent one).
I don't think he realised what a special occasion it was - but at least we'll be able to show him pictures for when he can.
On his actual birthday, we went to visit a school friend of mine whose son is a couple of months older than Michael. They get on very well - Alex doesn't seem to mind when Michael tries to steal his toys! Alex is also a big fan of 'In the Night Garden' - he's even got an animated Iggle-Piggle that Michael was quite enthralled by!
I decided that we also needed to commemorate the trauma that was endured by both Martin and myself (but mainly myself - and yes, I still remember it!) 365 days ago by treating ourselves to a nice meal. And since Michael's bedtime precludes eating out on the whole, an Indian takeaway was the next best thing! And Michael enjoyed the poppadoms and nan bread!
