We are now several weeks into the Coronavirus Lockdown. Truth be told I think I've actually lost track of how many weeks in we are now. I want to say 7 but it could be more or less than that. Everyone is doing a good job of keeping themselves going, although there have definitely been days when we've all been a little on edge.
Michael and Emma have adapted well to working from laptops through the day to get their schoolwork done. For the first week or so we drove places to go for our daily walk, but we started feeling bad about that as it's not technically essential travel, and in the absence of anything like clarification about whether that is ok from the UK Government issuing that kind of advice we've erred on the safe side. Even for me, it's not normal to not be more than walking distance from our house for several weeks. I haven't been in a car in at least 5 weeks.
Sarah has had to go into the Hub at Alloa Academy a couple of times, and has had to do things like getting shopping and popping by her school for stuff. Placing orders for shopping has become more difficult as initially you could get a slot for delivery a couple of days in advance, then they were booked out 3 weeks in advance as soon as they became available. Thankfully we've managed to get a couple of deliveries with some click and collect pickups, and Sarah has only actually had to do a proper in-the-shop shop a couple of times. She says it was quite depressing and stressful having to follow the one way system and worry about picking up things and not putting them back down if you found something better.
We finally gave up on our dishwasher, which had been working off and on for a couple of months. At least it didn't catch on fire like its predecessor. It finally stopped going into the clean cycle, so we fiddled around with the back of it and concluded it was actually dead. We ordered a new one, but Sarah and I had to install it ourselves as we can't have people in. We are proud that we actually fitted the thing ourselves and we no longer have to open the dishwasher door to fully open the drawer beside it.
We have tried to watch a film together at the end of each day. I've included a photo of a list I made a couple of weeks ago, but we've watched pretty much one each day since then. Emma often seems reluctant at first to watch anything she thinks she won't like, but just like she was reluctant then loved all of the Marvel films, she's similarly been reluctant then enjoyed all of the Star Wars films thus far. She also really enjoyed the Pirates of the Caribbean films.
The kids and Sarah have been good at doing their Joe Wicks workouts every morning. It's a good start to the morning for them. We have had to do some policing of them as they have a tendency watch YouTube videos when they should be doing schoolwork (Emma) or to spend forever fiddling on their phone (Michael). I don't feel so bad about the latter, though, as it's Michael's only way at the moment of interacting with his friends other than on the Xbox.
